    Highlights

    • It’s your responsibility to follow local COVID-19 regulations, including any travel and hosting restrictions in your area

    • If you’re a host in an area with government-mandated restrictions, you can cancel upcoming reservations penalty-free

It has been a difficult year, and hosts in many areas have finally gotten back to hosting. But as COVID-19 cases continue to rise around the world, some areas are imposing local travel and hosting restrictions in an effort to stop the spread of infection.

We know this can be a major source of stress for hosts, and we want you to know that we have your back. If you’re hosting in an area with government-mandated COVID-19 travel or hosting restrictions and you have reservations that you’re concerned about, you have options.

Monitor local government advisories for details

It’s a good idea to check local travel and hosting restrictions regularly, since the situation across the world is changing rapidly right now. We’ve compiled a list of COVID-19 travel restrictions and advisories to help get you started.

If you don’t find your area listed there, head to your government’s website or other local advisories for guidance. Please keep in mind that it’s your responsibility to follow your local rules, including any government-mandated hosting restrictions that prohibit or restrict travel or hosting in your area.

Communicate early and often with your guests

If you anticipate that you may have to cancel an upcoming reservation, we recommend communicating with your guests as early as possible to let them know that their trip may be impacted by hosting or travel restrictions.

Seasoned hosts have told us that they suggest guests rebook for future dates, and sometimes offer extra days or other discounts to increase the chance that guests will want to reschedule.

    Prioritize yourself and your community

Hosts in areas with government-mandated COVID-19 travel and hosting restrictions can cancel upcoming reservations without penalty or losing Superhost status. You can do this directly on the reservation details page—without having to call customer service.

If a guest wants to cancel for COVID-19 related reasons, reservations for stays and Airbnb Experiences made after March 14, 2020, will be held to the cancellation policy you had in place at the time of the booking, unless the guest or host is currently sick with COVID-19.

But if you’d like to work with your guests and reschedule for the future or be flexible on your cancellation policy, you can work out those details directly with your guest as well.

You can find a detailed rundown of our extenuating circumstances policy as it relates to COVID-19 in the Help Center, along with other info about cancellations.

Your safety and the safety of our entire community is always our priority. Stay safe and healthy out there.
