My favorite thing to do while staying on Oak Island is taking a morning walk to the beach. A careful crossing of Oak Island Drive, to continue down 43rd street , will lead you to a beautiful beach access point.

Rust and Corrosion
We are located on an island between the intercostal and the North Atlantic Ocean. The island get very humid and salty. This leads to rust and corrosion on things that are left outside even within a couple weeks. We recommend giving anything you leave outside a rinse to help keep your items from getting ruined during your stay.

Humidity = Bugs
Another thing to note is that due to our extreme humid climate, we are prone to bugs and you will most likely see a bug called a Palmetto. Many people easily mistake these guys for cockroaches. Unfortunately palmettos do frequent the island, but no need to worry, they won't do anything to you, just look ugly. We do everything that we can to keep bugs out, but sometimes Mother Nature wins. If you are seeing a lot, please don't hesitate to kindly reach out to us. We will do our best to contact our pest company and have them spray ASAP. If you find them dead, that's a sign the spray is working.

Beach Towels
Don't forget your beach towels! If you are flying in and wish to not have to pack towels, you can pick up inexpensive beach towels at the Dollar General right down the street.
