This is truly a perfect place for leisure or business travel. Previous guests have reserved the Zen Den for romantic getaways, conference or convention attendance (super close to the convention center), surprise birthday or anniversary getaway, Girls Night getaway, live concerts or theater shows, brewery tours, restaurants and cool attractions, Parents Weekend at one of the many close by universities, graduations, weddings…you name it!
The Zen Den is an addition onto our house but is totally separate. There are no shared spaces so you are completely on your own, unless you'd like to hang out! We can certainly share a beverage on the patio if that suits...even have a fire in the fire pit.
We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. The dogs (Benedict - 5 yrs/80 Lbs and Blaze - 9 1/2yrs/7 Lbs) enjoy some time in the back yard, but not when we have guests...unless you specifically want some lovable dog time, in which case you just need to let me know you'd like them to be around in the yard.
As for the cats (Storm, 5yrs and Oscar, 1 1/2yrs), they may come look through your sliding glass door and you are welcome to get to know each other, but please don't let them fool you...they don't usually get let in through the Zen Den and they receive plenty of food, water, and love. Don't believe a word they say to the contrary!
We have 2 teenage kids who you will likely never see because...video games, sports, friends, etc...but should you cross paths, they will likely ask if there is anything they can get for you to make you more comfortable. They are super nice most of the time :-)
There is no TV (being a Zen Den and all) but bring your laptop or other device and make use of the free wifi.
As for smoking, it is not allowed in the Zen Den, but feel free to do so on the patio and use the provided ashtray for disposing the waste.
If you're traveling for business and need a regular place from which to come and go, let me know. Longer-term stays come with a discount and weekly cleaning and/or laundry services can be added. Let me know what you are looking for and we can work out the details.
"The city of Richmond combines big-city amenities with southern charm and ease. Traffic usually means it takes 10 minutes to get somewhere instead of five, which is good if you're trying to get to a reservation at a James Beard nominated restaurant, a gallery opening or a new exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The city is home to easy parking, restaurants that win raves from local fans and national media and some of the best street art in the entire country. Shop at fun boutiques and vintage shops or stroll through Carytown, the city of Richmond is ready to impress."
The Zen Den is literally minutes (1-5 miles) from some of the coolest and interesting parts of the city...and the restaurants are plentiful! You'll enjoy anything from casual diners and local artist hang outs to world class contemporary fine dining. No matter how long you stay, you'll never be able to experience all of the amazing culinary delights Richmond has to offer.
