Galway's legendary walking tour !
The legendary tour centers around the tale of the Lynch family. Its a fascinating tale of how Walter Lynch is accused and tried for the murder of a visiting Spaniard who was a little too interested in his beautiful wife to be...or was he ? The story ends in a dramatic climax...but you will have to take the tour for that finale ! We also look at the legend of the Claddagh ring with a tale connected to Caribbean pirates, North African slave owners and a gold ring that speaks of eternal love. Christopher Columbus makes his appearance too, looking for a new way to China, but worrying that Atlantis might stand in his way. These and other tales are woven together in a 80-90 minute walk through the city. Its taken at a gentle pace to bring in all the major places of interest and embed them into the story of our city. Other things to note Dont worry about it raining - we have plenty of places to hide out of the rain !

The Claddagh ring experience, now with a great ring included
The Claddagh ring experience takes in some of the main sights of Galway weaving them into the story and legends of the ring. After passing through the stunning Latin quarter and Spanish arch areas of Galway we see some of the works of Richard Joyce, the hero of the Claddagh ring legend and maker (probably) of the first Claddagh ring sold commercially. After few tales of the folklore of the Claddagh we head up into the village itself. In Katie's cottage, a re-built Claddagh cottage we can enjoy a coffee or tea and a cake (included) in authentic surroundings. Heading back into the city centre we visit some of the Claddagh ring shops and look at links to some of the celebrities who have bought one. We finish up at a fantastic Claddagh ring shop called 'nuada'. Here you will receive your free Claddag ring, with our compliments! Conditions of offer: The ring is a female ring from the selection offered by the Foxford Jewellery company. If your chosen ring is outside of the standard range or size or is a male claddagh ring you will receive a 15 euro discount off the retail price. Male guests may choose to select a female ring as a gift (or to wear themselves!) alternatively they can receive a 15 euro discount off a male ring. If you have any question, or special request...then do please get in contact with me on Air b'n'b.

Knit a traditional Aran pattern in the Burren
Explore the history and symbolism of one of Ireland’s traditional crafts with a hands-on experience and workshop on the techniques of the intricate Aran knitted patterns. Suitable for all levels of experience. In this workshop, you will create your own Aran panel which can be framed or be part of a larger piece of work, such as a throw, sweater or scarf. The workshop is held by Stephanie, a professional knitter who provides commissioned knitted Aran creations and exhibits her art in Galway City. With her guidance and instructions, you will be able to both learn, understand and try your hand at a selected pattern. We'll provide you with local wool, a pattern and knitting needles. The Aran style and patterns have been handed down over generations and are originally from the three Irish speaking islands off the coast of County Galway. Traditionally worn by fishermen for their water-resistant quality and warmth, they were an everyday clothing item among the islanders. They have over time become a worldwide admired fashion item. Each pattern has its own symbolic meaning, it represents a story and a symbol, deeply rooted in Irish history and life; they also tell the stories and life of the knitter and their family. End your visit with tea and coffee, accompanied by traditional homemade brown bread with smoked salmon, and homemade porter cake.
Galway no-roads challenge, navigating the hidden city
The 'no-roads' challenge is something truly different. We explore the hidden, eccentric and just down-right odd corners of our city. The challenge means navigating the back-alleys, cut throughs and largely unknown bits of Galway. The walking will include some 'off-piste' sections that will appeal to the inner adventurer deep within us all. Please note that you should be reasonable fit to partake in this expedition as there will be a few walls and fences to scale, but an alternative will always be provided. Please also note that as this is a 'road less travelled' some areas may not be exactly sparking clean!...be prepared! Entry to all areas is either by public right of way or by permission of the landowner, unlike many 'no-road' challenges it will NOT be necessary to trespass over land at any point. Outline of tour: 1) Jungle cafe...wonderfully eccentric cafe to get us in the ood
