Svečio prieiga
You're welcome to visit every corner of this wonderful place on 5 acres, but you might need gumboots, if not hip waders! Best to ask if you're unsure.

And one thing about living in the country. It does make its way into human spaces! So please remove footwear BEFORE entering the suite.

Kiti svarbūs dalykai
(Please read our listing in full and also see our “House Manual”)

SPECIAL NOTE
In the interest of maintaining good health during the Covid-19 pandemic for yourself and others around you, please follow the directions of B.C.'s Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Bonny Henry. This includes frequent hand-washing, wearing a mask in public, social distancing in public places and avoiding social gatherings inside people's homes.

THE SPACE
The main room/kitchenette/breakfast bar areas in each suite is a little over 100 sf. The full-size bathrooms and outdoor decks (covered, heated, lit, and curtained) in each suite provide added space. A cozy haven for some, too cramped for others.

SEASONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Spring brings a rebirth of life and new flora and fauna. But if you have hay fever and want to enjoy that fresh air, bring your antihistimine!

Summertime is when the fresh berries and vegetables start to appear. A great time to sit on the deck with a glass of chablis, and outdoor picnics are fabulous! But some days can be scorching hot. Don’t forget your sun hat and sunscreen.

Fall and winter bring exciting weather, LOL! A crazy mix of warm and cold days, rain and rainbows, dramatic storms along with snowy calm. A great time to catch up on reading and online courses! The time of year to sit on the deck with a great travel companion and a cup of hot cocoa. But best to layer up, haha! Comparatively speaking, winter weather here is balmy, but it’s still a good idea to bring warm, waterproof clothing and boots so that you can enjoy all that an outdoor experience offers. The outdoor sofa cushions stacked neatly in the suite are easy to set up and bring in when it’s stormy.

Depending on seasonal fire restrictions, guests are welcome to use the fire pit and firewood.

SOUNDS AND NOISE
We may have additional guests in the suite next door so we respectfully ask for noise to be kept down, especially after 10 p.m.

You might hear household noises like the furnace, running water, water purification system regeneration, footsteps, beavers falling trees, and Grok, our resident prehistoric pteradactyl (maybe a heron) calling as he arrives for breakfast!

SMALL CHILDREN/FUR BABIES
Families with kids are more than welcome to stay, but please note that it has not been specially set up to be toddler-friendly.

Pets are welcome but please tell us. If they are not comfortable with cats, please keep them on a leash.

PUPPY COMFORT
There will be new and exciting scents and sounds! And we want them to be as comfortable as our human guests. So, If they need to curl up on furniture or the bed, please bring their favourite blanket or towel. For their safety, they should not be left unsupervised anywhere on the property. And please pick up after your puppy and dispose of used poop bags in the grey plastic garbage can in the carport. We can supply poop bags if you've forgotten to bring them.

NATURE ISN'T CUDDLY
Forget Disney! Because Nature is life with all its drama.

Things to watch for (especially for people with mobility issues, young children, and pets)
• river and wetlands
• uneven ground
• stinging nettle and prickly plants
• insects (some can bite and sting, some just look scary)
• wildlife (river otters, beavers, mink, racoons, and coyotes)

The Salmon River has been known to overflow its banks during big-rain (atmospheric river!) events. We never know if or when it will be happen! If we get advance warning, we will contact you and advise you to park near the top of the driveway facing the big red barn door and pull on your gumboots. You might be walking along the gravel road in a few inches of water to get to your dry and cozy warm suite.

SOME ABSOLUTES
Absolutely no parties or smoking anywhere on the property.

Check-in is at 4 p.m. and there is no early check-in without prior confirmation. Check-out is at 10 a.m.

Close at hand are wineries, breweries, seasonal festivals, golf courses including a brand new par-5 discus course, running track, rain forest hiking, biking, indoor and outdoor swimming, skydiving, nature reserves, etc.

The environment here

The headwaters of the Salmon River carve out a landscape that is always changing. Mostly calm and self-contained but in the winter it can overflow its banks in the rush to join the powerful and life-sustaining Fraser River at Fort Langley.

A few years ago the hayfield at Alder-Is was restored to a more natural state which has resulted in a thriving ecosystem for coho salmon, songbirds, and small mammals. Long-absent species are returning each year. It's a restorative environment for people too.

The rooms – designed to let as much light in as possible – and covered heated decks with comfortable seating ensure that, no matter what the weather, you can view the wildlife and changing light and stay connected with nature.

Spring and summer, of course, bring new life and inspiration. The rain in the fall and winter is welcome too as it fills the streams and tributaries, carves out new pools and ponds, and replenishes the marsh and aquifer. Winter snow and ice bring light and open up passageways for animals to roam more freely.
