Būstas
This sweet rustic 24' yurt is nestled in the trees, near a year-round stream. With a queen sized loft with overhead view for sleeping, there is room for more mattresses on the common floor, Water in winter comes from the main house ( basement) nearby, there is a composting toilet that you take care of in the yurt’s shower house. Winter shower will be set up in the yurt. The yurt heats with a woodstove, has a kitchen, living room. Off-grid solar power, propane refrigerator. We may be putting in a propane back-up heater.

You can come with all your food and quarantine in place at the yurt, you can hike locally back yourself but not on town property( such as the town forest). Please give good distance if you see anyone out there. We are also social distancing on the land.

Winter: There is no running water in the winter, though you can carry water from my basement ( with masks) or we can fill jugs for you. I am working on a shower/bath system as the shower house will be turned off by then as well. Composting toilet in shower house will work ( bucket system, that you take care of. )If all this works, along with no smokers and not a drinking facility( well, a celebratory glass of wine is fine), then come on along. If you are from out of state, then you will need to quarantine.
When you leave, please clean super thoroughly and make sure you plug in the ultraviolet purifier for COVID, and put it on the corner of the table. Sometimes the next guests are coming before I get back from work. The machine is stored inside the storeroom under the loft bed. It is to the right in a tall thin box. Plug it into the green cord and get ready to leave the yurt your final time, then push just the button on the little white remote control that says 60 minutes. This is the last thing you do. Take the remote to the door and leave it on the edge of the sink. This will clean the yurt. Thank you very much.

Driving: Winter tires are highly recommended. The driveway is a hill down. Depending on snow, you might need to park up the road across the street on the RIGHT side, nearest spot to our place and perpendicular to the road, and then walk back the 0.1 mi, depending on snow. ( please don’t use the pullout closest to my house on the Left— the neighbor needs it).
You should keep track of the weather. Your parking spot is halfway down the driveway on the left across from the white tiny house. To drive out in snow, back up to my house and give it one shot to the top without stopping till wheels are in road.

In winter running water is at the main house--bring jugs/buckets from the yurt to the cellarway. We have a potable hose from the house system, down the cellarway with a white hose, bring it up to ground level for filling and then replace it in its hook, and then you carry or wheelbarrow or sled the water back to the yurt. In 3 season warm weather, the potable hose is at the yurt and plumbed inside.. Summer Drinking water is behind the right side of the main house, faucet on outer wall of house.

There are kayaks (with instructor tips) for rent or guided adventures, and cross country skis.
Trails, creek, hikes, cross country skiing, small lake nearby.
The internet is wifi at the yurt, but has to be turned on and off at the house.
There is no cell service here, but there is a landline phone at the house.

** You need to sign the Vermont travel compliance--find it at Agency of Commerce and Development, and the red link: Cross State Travel Information. You need to go to the links and read the guidelines and travel maps.
Scroll down past the map to find the Certificate of Compliance
This is the wording for the certification of compliance:
** I certify that I have reviewed the State of Vermont out-of-state traveler guidelines and travel map and comply with current health and safety requirements for traveling to, from, and within the State of Vermont. I further certify that I understand all travelers should stay home if ill (with any symptoms); maintain physical distance of at least 6’ from anyone outside their household; wear a cloth mask when in public spaces; and wash or sanitize hands often.

By accepting this reservation, you are agreeing to these terms.

When you are here, you need to maintain social distance, clean behind you, and do not go to public places. There are plenty of quiet trails around here.

WINTER at the yurt: In the winter, it is like winter camping, with amenities. Bring your sheets and sleeping bags or let me know if you need some. You are on your own for caring for the yurt bedding.

The tan 24’ yurt at the driveway level:
Directions:
Download directions before you leave the highway. From Rte 132 in S Strafford, go up
Miller pond rd just 1.9 miles. Mailbox # 1885 ( old number was #107) on right. Driveway on left.
Park on left along the hill in your own turnout above the tan yurt

-Your woodpile is in the woodshed by the yurt. We suggest bringing kindling and paper, as we don't have much.
Pay attention to Woodstove if you use it. Instructions are written out on the wall. Be careful.
-Pack it in, pack It out. Everything.
-Sink in yurt works in 3 seasons. Winter- sink can drain to bucket on porch, which you need to empty daily away from the yurt (don't put solids down the drain).
--Winter water--we will give you buckets/tubs of water from the house, and will have a system to get water from our cellar. You must wear a mask.
-Hot water: flow through tank. Turn on when using. Dial up for hot. Comes out through sink, up to 45 degrees warmer than incoming water. Winter: carry tub or bucket of water to yurt and place pump in it or flow through hot water into sink. We plan to set up indoor shower/ sit-tub — move it from under loft to into kitchen to use warm water.
-Cookstove. 3 burners. Cooking gear is there. Please clean up after yourselves. There are pots and pans and dishes and silverware. Please leave everything clean when you are done.
-Power: Solar powered lights on solar panels/battery system. Back up system is green power cord running off my house power. Use this to sterilize yurt when you leave with unit that is under the loft. Push remote for 60 minutes as you leave the yurt. It gives you 10 seconds to leave, do not re-enter yurt.
- POTTY: when you use the shower house potty, 3 season, (behind the yurt) , you are responsible for double bagging and removing it when you leave, and putting in 2 new bags, one for spare in there. Also * wash down the pee diverter with water to clean EVERY time you use it. Use coconut shells fiber in top of poo.
In Winter, there is a composting bucket potty in he shower house behind the yurt. First 2 composting bags, lipped over the edge of the bucket, Then Use a scoop of shavings or cocoa shells in bottom of bag, also you may add a poo powder tablespoon or some EcoGel to gel up liquids. Put another scoop of shavings or cocoa shells over deposits.
At end of your stay, or when the bucket is getting full: You take the Composting filled bags to the wire circle or furthest back pallet bin, up the driveway behind the three compost bins. Cover with shavings or wood chips from the left hand bin. Shovel is there.
Enjoy the adventure!
