Be at the serene forefront of the wonders of the Blue Mountains in this recently finished earth-house. It is “THE” boutique home-stay for Cliff Drive, Katoomba.
Feel the embrace of the escarpment within the 12 foot high off-form concrete walls (mixed from the sand on site), with everything you want-on-your-stay-list: A contemporary space, roomy rooms, cosy, comfy, private, quiet, air-conditioned house. Add on: A open air Mexican banquet area and bbq, a huge under-cover hot tub area. Hot !

Būstas
Enter through heavy, recycled timber doors into a high ceiling space, polished concrete floors throughout, extended galley dining-kitchen-sitting area, open sky mexican east side courtyard aside through french doors, and a large undercover "cliffs" courtyard beyond where a hot-tub sits right aside the encroaching bush. Find your way through the rest of the house door by door - lounge room (with slow combustion fire place) master bedroom, and bathroom.

Svečio prieiga
The whole house is yours, inside and out:
Outside:
Lower lawn terrace.
Brick paved level-entry terrace with an under-the-stars fire pit at the front of house.
Open sky Mexican courtyard with banquette table and BBQ East side
Undercover "Cliffs" Courtyard with hot tub / cool plunge pool (in peak summer).
Finally, at the top of the property, an upper level area for a champas / high tea...before directly accessing Cliff Drive and onwards to the lookout areas, narrow neck, and beyond.
(Please note the 2nd bedroom (Kids/Twin Room) will be closed off unless extra guests or children are expected to stay)

Minimum Stays:

Christmas period 3 nights
Other periods: 2 nights

Easter: All 4 days.

Quality:
Although this house has gratefully received many 5-star ratings from my guests, it is not a 5-star resort or hotel, particularly in terms of brand new furniture. It’s very plain and simple. It has a "sustainable living" approach. As such, there has been a lot of re-purposed material utilized in some interesting ways, salvaged furniture tells stories of past-lives (showing marks and all). It's "blue-mountains-style" in that way. However, the carpets and furnishings create an overall comfortable space in an “a-la-naturale" environment.

Despite the old and used items above, all new (2020) quality linen, pillows, towels, mattresses, cutlery, electrical and white goods are provided.

Please keep the linen and pillows on the beds and don’t drag them around or take them to other rooms. I’m very much trying to keep high level hygiene for bedding in particular. (Please BYO extra comforts, ugg boots, swimming kit, etc)

HOW LONG SHOULD YOU STAY ?

To really enjoy Katoomba and the upper mountains area the most and still have some time to relax, I would truly recommend a 3-night stay over a weekend, or a 4-night stay mid-week to get the best value (averaged ) after your travels and the cleaning/set up cost, and engage with the area a day longer. There is so much to do and see, and it’s much better to avoid the Saturday morning approach traffic and Sunday afternoon departing traffic to the mountains by adding a day.

Hot Tub/Plunge Pool.
The hot tub is set at hot (37 deg +).
(On hot weekends in summer, guests may opt to stop the heater and let the hut tub cool down towards the 26 degrees mark.

The hot tub is around 70cm deep and has a lockable cover and is chemically treated. It now has an additional pool fence at the request from council. As a guest, you will have the responsibility for maintaining safety and locking up after use. Watch for overheating (all ages) and drowning risks.

Please bring any extra swimming towels you think you may need. There is also a really great tempered public swimming pool in Katoomba for your further enjoyment, which also has a spa and sauna for over 16’s, a toddler's pool, a heated indoor 25m pool and some cooler outdoor pool (wading and 50m Olympic size for lap swimming - wouldn't want to disrupt your fitness regime). It is really nice in summer, as there are not many natural swimming holes to cool off in the hotter months.
Other public pools:
- Blackheath has a classic early 19th C. retro-style public pool in summer.
- Lawson - famous for it's bush setting
- Springwood - has indoor only, but a water slide (check times), kids play pool
with whirlpool, hot tub and sauna
- Glenbrook - open area lawns with 3 pools.

External Conditions:
The house is very well suited as shelter in case of bush fire threat and is built accordingly.

Limited Refunds / Strict Cancellation policy:
If deciding to book/secure/hold the property for yourself, there’s always a risk of your own circumstances changing or external conditions that may arise and spoil your plans including rain, smoke, fog, snow, storms, event cancellations etc, as this is never known to many of us. Other guests may not have the problem for themselves or expect "ideal" conditions, but regretfully the house has lost a large part of its opportunity to host others at late notice, particularly for fixing in holiday plans. There is still a 50% refund up to one week before the booking date. But, after that, only the cleaning fee is refundable when you cancel. However, I WILL TRY TO re-list the house for you and pass on any recovered costs back to you that way.

Katoomba, New South Wales, Australija

Katoomba is often quoted as being the heart of the Mountains. I would say a top 10 spots in the entire world: While most National Parks of the world look up at their towering cliffs, Katoomba looks from the tops down - into the airy depths below and across un-spoilt eucalypt forests as far as the eye can see, boarded afar by the same red sandstone cliff from the lookout points, sometimes, around Echo Point (the main 3 Sisters lookout), to the chant of a didgeridoo.

Experience the smell of native Australian bushland, hear the “peeping whistle” of a black cockatoo winging overhead, feel the riches of the most preciously-rationed-life-giving water along the cascades before it falls as a light mist into the valleys below. Enjoy the street culture: the buskers, the cafes and restaurants and regular international visiting bands and festivals. Its an artists canvas, a writer's den, a retreat, a break from it all, medicine for the soul.... it's everything!

Immediate located- Narrow Neck Area (Glenraphel Drive):
The starting point for the most popular runs, hikes, rides, climbs and enjoys around 5 nearby formal look-out points along Cliff Drive: find "Eagle Hawk Lookout" to view the 3 sisters from a more distant point (around 10 mins walk from the house); wander down Glenraphel Drive for around 10 minutes from the house to the pump station locked gate to look back and view the cliffs in their full splendor and color and explore some rather exposed rocky points and paths around that area; Stroll around 5 minutes westward along Cliff Drive to "Narrow Neck Lookout" to watch the sunset over Megalong Valley as the Jamison Valley falls into dark; And, if your lucky, witness the Phantom Falls (cloud falls) over Narrow Neck ridge down into the Jamison right across the road from the house.

Scenic World (100 m)
Skyways cable car viewing and the almost vertical track of scenic railway down to the valley floor and the rainforest boardwalks below

Echo Point:
Famous for the 3 sisters, it's well worth taking a (1hr) clifftop walk to Echo Point, via Katoomba Falls, and catch the bus back.

Katoomba Street:
The cultural center, bars, bands, cafes, and restaurants come alive over weekends.

Leura Village
Home to boutique shops, restaurants and the famous heritage home "Everglades" and its year-round open gardens and occasional open-air Shakespeare performances. Hire a set of clubs at Laura’s “Fairways” Golf Course.

Other Towns:
Wentworth Falls for hiking:
Blackheath for lookouts and lower-key village offerings.
Medlow Bath - and the Hydro Majestic's high tea and sunset bar.

Everywhere: Numerous art galleries and haunts scattered street by street throughout the upper mountains. (Including the famous Magic Pudding artist Norman Lindsay at Falconbridge on approach from Sydney.)

Giday, I'm the marathon owner builder of my house, and appreciate the respect so many guests have shown to my house. I've spent a decade travelling in my around my thirties and felt humble with the way so many cultures live with in their simple housing. I've always found a sense of awe with mountains and subsequently spent another decade trying to bring my dream house into the physical. Now very happy to share with others. Down to Earth fella with positive life attitude. Love climbing, white water and writing.
